Lebo Pride is offering a $1,000 annual scholarship to current Mt. Lebanon School District (MTLSD) seniors who have made a positive impact on the local queer and gender diverse community.
Eligibility
- Current Mt. Lebanon High School Seniors
- Plans of attending a technical/trade school or college/university within 2 years
or
- Former Mt. Lebanon High School Student (within the last 2 years)
- Has a high school diploma or equivalent
- Currently attending or planning to attend a technical/trade school or college/university within 1 year
Requirements
- Create an essay, video, or artistic submission which clearly showcases your commitment and contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community (see specs below for more details).
- Your submission should detail your involvement with the LGBTQIA+ community and how you plan to continue to be a voice of inclusivity for the community. Focus on the following questions to guide your writing:
- How have you been a positive force for the LGBTQIA+ community?
- What does the future hold for this community with you as a leader?
- What, if any, hardships or challenges have you encountered as a member of, or ally for, the community?
- What issue do you feel needs to be immediately addressed and will be a primary focus of your work within the LGBTQIA+ community?
- When creating your submission, please consider how you will endeavor to further the narrative and action for inclusivity and acceptance as it relates to those in the queer and gender diverse community and/or what you have already done to pave an inclusive pathway for those in and out of educational spaces.
- Submit a one-page letter of reference from a respected teacher, counselor, coach, community member, etc. who can vouch for your involvement and overall character as it pertains to the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Submit your application and reference letter in the form below by March 31, 2024.
Submission Specifications
Essay Submission
- 750 word limit
- PDF format
- Double-spaced
- File uploaded to cloud hosting with sharing permissions set to allow anonymous viewers
- Recommended MLA or APA format
Video Submission
- 5-minute maximum
- Minimum 720p resolution
- Recommended 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9 aspect ratio
- Uploaded to Youtube as either Public or Unlisted
- View YouTube’s Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and copyright policy.
Art Submission
- High resolution
- 300 dpi
- PDF format
- Multiple images, photos, graphics, etc. should be combined into a single PDF with the essay. No PDF Portfolios.
- Accompanying essay describing how your piece of art speaks to our mission of inclusivity.
- 500 word limit
- Double-spaced
- File uploaded to cloud hosting with sharing permissions set to allow anonymous viewers
Lebo Pride Scholarship Application
What to Expect
All scholarship applicants will be notified via email by May 1, 2024, regarding whether they have been selected as the recipient or not. We will publicly announce the scholarship recipient on our website, social media channels, and email newsletter on May 22, 2024. The Lebo Pride Scholarship recipient will also be recognized at the Mt. Lebanon High School Awards Night.
